International Activity

Najib Mikati continuously attends and contributes to regional and world economic and development conferences. He exchanges views and comments in a bid to keep Lebanon at the forefront of the public arena, bridging gaps and attracting foreign investment. An active member of the international advisory council of the International Crisis Group (, he contributes his advice and experience on a regular basis to help prevent and resolve deadly conflict. The Crisis Group Board includes prominent world figures from the fields of politics, diplomacy business and the media. They bring their reports and recommendations to the attention of senior policy-makers around the world. As an example, the Group had issued in Oct 2006 an open letter signed by 135 former officials- presidents, prime ministers, ministers, academics, and spiritual leaders calling for an immediate conference for a fair settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Premier Mikati is also active in the academic world. He is a member of the Dean’s International Council of the Harris School at the University of Chicago, with the Mikati Fellowship, providing support for Middle Eastern and Asian students in the Islam and Public Policy Program, a particularly important initiative given the current state of international affairs. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Beirut.
